Dimitri Payet shines as France downs Romania in a thrilling opener of the Euros 2016

Payet celebrates France' goal



10th July 2016, France – In the opening game of the Euros, home team France beat opponents Romania at the Stade de France by 2 goals to 1.  The game had ended in a deadlock in the first half as Didier Deschamps managed side couldn’t convert their chances. EPL West-ham star, Payet was the man of the match as he assisted a Giroud opener and also sealed the game after Romania equalised with a penalty caused by Patrice Evra. Chances missed by Giroud and Griezmann could have increased the tally for the Les Bleus. Lloris was on call too in the game as he made a stunning save in the 4th minute to deny Romania Stancu any headway.
It is on record that  29-year-old Dimitri Payet is the second France player after Thierry in the year 2000 to score and assist in a European finals game.
